From my experience you are on the right track. I find it best before reinstalling a Symantec product to clean out the registry of all remnants of the previous installation... and there usually is much left that only complicates a new installation.
There must be a better way but it seems Symantec insist on leaving such rubbish.![]()

I am very happy with Norton Systems(anti virus) and Norton Firewall. However , I recently had to uninstall and then reinstall both programs. What a nightmare. Finally got both installed. However taskbar icons did not group, no big deal. Worse, however, is I can't update Firewall, since subscription is being shown as expired even though it is paid up until next December.
I have contacted Norton but since it is the weekend, no answer yet. Wow, it should be easier to uninstall software. I finally had to go into registry and delete stuff according to Norton "manual" uninstall guide.
