UK version of Tivo

Dec 12, 2005 8:21PM PST

Hey guys. I've heard you talking alot about tivo on the podcast and I think you should take a look at what we have in Ireland and the UK. http://www.sky.com/ordersky/equipment/skyplus It's a hard disk based recorder which can record 2 channels at once while watching something already recorded. It recoreds directly from the satelite feed so the quality is identical as if you were watching it live. It also records 5.1 surround sound if available on that channel. It's definitly something I couldn't live without.

I was thinking they might be along similar lines. It's about $120 for the hardware at the moment and it comes in 60GB and 180GB but you can upgrade the hard drive once you have a little computer knowledge. If you dont get the movie channel there's an extra $14 charge a month for the sky+ function. It's well worth it though. The EPG on is very simple to use and yet very powerful at the same time. There's more detailed stuff in the forums if your interested http://forum.digitalspy.co.uk/board/forumdisplay.php?f=35

The DirecTV TiVo is $50 or less depdning but only has 35 hours. Unless you get the HDTV TiVo in which case it's 35 hours HD but something like 140 normal. DirecTV charges $4.95 a month for the TiVo service.
