not a smart tv
Aug 29, 2015 11:44PM PDT

Yes it is not a smart tv but since it connects to my network i would expect it to be able to play video from my laptop. I guess this doesnt work. So what is the point of adding network capabilities to a standard tv (network enabled)? Is there really any use for this dongle with my tv?

Thank you for your answer.

There are models that only use that to update firmware.

While it's questionable what the value there is, as an electronics designer I've run into where the basic design was done, some smarts put in but Walmart wants a discount model. The production line is using the wireless for final update or test so you pull out a RAM chip or such and it's a few dollars cheaper. To keep costs low you don't pull the USB WiFi or you pay more to produce it.

Nod to Roku and such for these models.
