Ubuntu vs. Kubuntu

by OmegaTomato / March 2, 2007 1:59 AM PST

After doing some reading I've decided to migrate over to Linux and I decided to use Kubuntu mainly because a friend of mine uses it and I like it quite a bit. I was just wondering, however, since Kubuntu is a derivative or Ubuntu, what the main differences were. Depending on their differences, I might decide to go with Ubuntu since I'm sure it's similar to Kubuntu but could be more suited to my needs (or vice-versa which would just reinforce my thought to go with Kubuntu).

Forgot one little thing...

I forgot to ask one little thing. Although I don't know how it all works, I understand that Kubuntu works with KDE 3. I've heard the some Linux applications (the one I heard about this from is Gwenview) will soon stop making KDE3 version but instead start to make KDE 4 versions. Therefore, I was wondering if Kubuntu will be changing from KDE 3 to KDE4 at any foreseeable time in the future.

Kubuntu site says it gets upgraded every six months.

Next update in about 3 months.

As Robert said in another thread about correcting problems in Linux variations, just wait a few days and the fix will appear. That's the good part of open source. There's an army of programmers fixing things free.

Here's a link

Note the list of subjects at the top of todays page. A number of KD4 info items.

Yeah, don't worry about new changes.

Unless you are an expert (know what you are doing), you wait for the next version of the distribution which incorporate the things that you want then you just upgrade to that version; and the beauty of this is that it is very inexpensive.
