Question

Ubuntu updates - now no wireless internet?

Oct 25, 2011 7:44PM PDT

Have recently been given an Acer notebook with Ubuntu on. This gave me
automatic access to my wireless broadband. After allowing updates a few
days ago, I can only access broadband with a wire. The drop-down menu
will not let me change settings to search for wireless connections. I
have never used this system before and have not had the netbook long
enough to familiarise myself with a non-Windows system. Any advise as to
patches or how to do a restore?

Wireless Radio
Oct 25, 2011 9:59PM PDT

You realy are talking to someone that's never really looked at this system at all. Do I assume I go into some sort of set-up to switch this on? I'll check on the netbook itself to see whay I can find.

wireless radio on Acer netbook

Have looked in System settings - Network. Have tried to switch the Wireless switch to On, but as soon as I move the cursor to try and add the network name, the slider switches to off, Wireless unavailable. Am I just looking in the wrong place?

I'm not familiar with Ubunto . . .

Sorry here. Most laptops have a function key that turns the radio on and off. Usually the Alt key plus an "F" key. You might go to the Acer web site and look for the owner's manual for that model.

On Many Acers, It's A Button Near The Power Button..
Oct 26, 2011 6:36AM PDT

Some Acer laptops have the button at the top near the power button. Some have it on the narrow side edge or front-side edge of the computer.. It's an actual button that needs to be pushed. It's easy to accidentally press the wireless button and turn the wireless adapter off.

Hope this helps.
