ubuntu instal failed, havelost 70 gb from h/d how to recover

i tried to install ubuntu but failed now i find i have lost 70g/b from my h/d, lost partion is not showing on my pc
origanal h/d size was 150g/b tried everything to try and find any help would be great,i`m a computer newbie.
original operating system is win xpwhich is working fine

Clarification Request
Post this in Linux forum

By any chance were you trying to set up to dual boot on a drive that already contained XP? I don't think that works and XP won't recognize the partition. You'll need to download and burn a copy of gparted which should allow you to delete the Linux partition. Of course you'll need to BU your XP data or, better yet, it's partition if you can.
