Ubuntu and PCMCIA slots

How can I tell why my pcmcia wireless network adapter does not work with Ubuntu linux. Also looking for opinions on Unbuntu as oppsed to other distributions.

The simplest way I can write this is that this distro doesn't support either your PC-Card, PCMCIA chipset or your wifi card. I've learned that it's best to try other distros until you find what works.

I like this one, but this is the only one I've tried. Which would you reccomend for someone new to linux with good hardware compatability. Thanks, Craig P.S. Is Umbuto a popular or good distro?

Remember that some will define such as it works with their hardware while I think KNOPPIX, Suse, Mandriva are all quite fine. I'm running Suse 9.2 and will change up to 10.0 when it ships. KNOPPIX is fulfilling a role of disaster recovery special ops for me.
