Ubuntu 9.04 in WinVista w/ VirtualBox

Sep 4, 2009 3:12AM PDT

I installed Ubuntu in my Vista laptop with virtualbox 3.04 and I suceeded the installlation, but it can only run at painfully 800x600px, and I want larger display. (if possible, full screen without borders)

My laptop system:
WinVista Home Premium 32-bit SP2
Core2Duo @2Ghz
RAM: 3GB
Display: 12.1" (1280x800px) with Intel Graphics Acc Mobile

Guest system:
Ubuntu 9.04
RAM:512MB
VidRAM:12MB (MAX)
hard disk: 8GB

Note: Windows 7 RC managed to run on 1280x768px (also with 12MB vid ram), and I guess it is driver issue, not hardware

If it is the guest driver's fault, is there any replacement? Thanks for any suggestion. YaHa

You need to install guest additions...
Sep 15, 2009 1:33PM PDT

When the virtual machine is running go to the top of the window and open the "Devices" menu, select "Install Guest Additions..." and in a couple seconds a CD will appear on your (Ubuntu's) desktop and a auto-run dialog will come up, allow it to run and your done. Restart Ubuntu and you'll be able to adjust the screen resolution, your mouse won't be "stuck" inside Ubuntu, and a few other nice features. Took me forever to find that out. Silly

My tip - (sorry that it is so long after you posted.. there are other forums much more focused on linux to be frank.)
Switch to Sun VirtualBox 2.06, and use perhaps the <-just released> beta of Ubuntu 9.10. If on an amd64 PC that supports hardware virtualisation - then activate that in the Bios and use the 64bit ubuntu for the guest system.

Once installed follow the instructions in the VB3.06 Help to add the Guest System Additions. (Doing this needs following the instructions in detail-) then re-start your Ubuntu and all should be well.

Was for me at least.
