what's the deal here.....when I type in MS word, the next character to the right keeps disappearing as I type each character. I'm stumped.
win98/IE 6.0

No need to be stumped. Just toggle the insert key on you keyboard. And note the color of the OVR (overwrite) indication in the status bar when you do so.

Recognize the sentence "nearly nobody knows how they got there when it happens" in http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/article08-105 ? So you're not the only one.

..at Word>Tools>Options Menu. Edit tab. Uncheck Overtype mode. While there, you may like to look at other options. ( Applies to Word 2002. Should be similar for other versions.)

Note that the Insert key may also work elsewhere, e.g. typing at this Forum. In this case, there seems no way to disable it except to disconnect the wire to the key, or by some keyboard remapping utilities.

...please ignore post. Just realize that the Options at Word do not affect the workings of the Insert Key. Back to the Macro....
