Don't think you need it on the dash

Unless you've found that this card only works on your dashboard, it should function fine in your laptop inside the car. PCS should penetrate the roof of your car just fine.

Works fine but...

Want to get the RF emissions away from myself. Laptop is on all day and is positioned to the right side of my leg. Can?t reposition the laptop - need it to do work in the field.

Thank You,

Seriously?

90% of us that use laptops all day have a built in wireless that's irradiating our wrists and hands. That's 2.4GHz 802.11. not to mention those of us who use a wireless mouse in conjunction (RF)! It's not going to give you cancer . . . I would have it already.

As far as a Sprint card goes, I hate to make you freak out even more, but that's not even RF. That's GPRS or GSM, somewhere between 800MHz and 2.4 GHz, closer to a cell phone than anything else.

I don't know if that's better or worse for you.

As far as having it next to your right leg goes, I have my cell phone on my hip or in my pocket all day, every day. No strange suntan on my midsection, no tumors, and though I haven't checked, I'm pretty sure I'm not impotent.

That may just work...

Didn't see the Aircard 550 Wireless Network Card on the website when I bought my Merlin C201. Maybe it's new.

Have an email into Sprint to see if the antenna can be used with a coaxial cable to get it up on the dash by the window.

This would be great if it will.

Thank You,

Fred

Other Options

If you're really concerned, I guess another option would be to get a CF-II USB adapter, and get the Compact-Flash version of the card. Also, the $299 PC Card has an antenna that looks removable. I bet you could rewire that to an antenna that you stuck on your windshield somewhere.
