Two Way Phones

Sep 5, 2004 3:20PM PDT

Hello,
I really like how nextel has a two way radio type thing, but I've been told that nextel's service isnt so great. Are their any other services that have this two way radio?

Nextel's two-way radio phones only work best if you're in a major city llike Chicago. If you go into rural areas, that's where coverage gets to be spotty, and Nextel phones are useless if you go off their network as they don't have analog or GSM or CDMA digital backup for roaming, and their phones have a proprietary digital standard, IDEN. As what I've heard about Verizon Wireless's push-2-talk walkie talkie phones, that's worse than Nextel since there are too many bugs in that service, but regular Verizon Wireless service is fine. If you want walkie talkie service, Nextel is the way to go at this time. I don't know anything about Sprint's walkie talkie service since it's new to my knowledge.

yes he is righ about all that i will add a little more . lately nextel has been way better that before, in service not much to complaint about that we use it at work and is good but then again i live n nyc so i dont know how good is their coverage in the woods heh i have sprintpcs also and i love it no bug and works great and seen to work as goood as nextel, verizon 2way radio seen to be a little slow like it lags or something. if i were u i would go either nextel since more ppl have 2 way radio from nextel. or sprintpcs since they got best phone and service is great in coverage etc.... not in customer service, but then again i only know 3 friends with sprintpcs 2way radio and like 30 with nextel.

Nextel has improved greatly in the last 3 years, im amazed at the increase in coverage. Sprints push to talk is much faster than VZW's I know people that are very happy with them.

jnugyen is that you from smith elamentary school? if it is cool, i know you moved nd dont know your new phone # look in the directory from last year for matt lebel
and call me

But to awnser your question, nextels service is not the only 1 verizon also offers a push to talk service, and nextels service is ok but plans are expensive and better for large companies and construction co. If you want good service and a ptt service go to verizon, service is great and they have cool phones cheap or free!

From what I heard, Verizon's push-to-talk has way too many bugs in it that if you want 2 way radio phones, Nextel is the best way to go for that. I personally don't like 2 way radio phones, but other people do. Like Nextel, Verizon's push-to-talk only works on Verizon's network. So if you roam on someone else's network, you'll be able to make regular calls, but not push-to talk. Nextel requires a user to be on their network for the phone to work at all as Nextel uses IDEN, a proprietary digital standard, while Verizon uses CDMA.

for 2 way stay with nextel. if u want more than just 2 way then use sprintpcs nothing. i use both. verizon is trash for 2 way trust me on this i try it before. and is very expensive with verizon all their plans.

The difference between Verizon's push to talk now compared to when they first launched it about 2 years ago has improved somewhat but its still to slow for most people

Personally I think the 2-way service is on the brink of extinction. Several years back I can understand why so many folks were excited about having the ability to contact folks within their network at no additional cost. You can call each other and have elongated conversations and not worry about using your daytime minutes. Although now-a-day, you have Sprint?s PCS to PCS and Verizon?s ?IN? networks that allow you unlimited talk time to individual with these features added to their plans. This observation really makes me question why an individual would want this service. I personally would like to be able to call someone and save some time trying to learn CD etiquette.

In closing, I personally find the Nextel phones very annoying. The ?Beep Beep? then the obnoxious 2-way conversation is engaged. Most of the time it?s in a public place and both users feel compelled to yell to get their point across. I find this much more intrusive then the standard cell phone, at least you don?t here the response.

If you?re really in the market to streamline your communication with your employees try this:

1. Get a plan with Verizon or SprintPCS. Make sure you sign up for one of the family plans.
2. You may be able to catch a 2 for 1 deal on the phone
3. Try a 1 year contract with unlimited talk time on the family plan
4. Get to handling business with a simple phone call and a lot more coverage then Nextel.
5. Enjoy your service and get the message right the first time.

Over? ?Beep ? Beep?
