Two topics, "DVD Mp3 players?" and DVD Laser purchasing

I didn't think it'd be wise to annoy everyone by creating two new topics at once, so I'll ask them both here.

First, are there any portable cd-mp3 players from trusted well-known companies that are compatible with mp3-filled dvd-r's, but don't have video support (or just don't have screens)?

Second, for a friend (yes, he's big into custom circuitboards and etc...) is it possible to obtain the DVD laser component(s) without buying a full dvd player?

My Philips DIVX DVD player plays DVD-R filled with MP3s. And if I google I find DVD parts such as http://www.richspsxparts.com/samsunglas.html With some bazillion players it's unlikely this is what they are looking for, but we do have google.com

ok, #2 down, but #1 still stands

That kind of thing is exactly what my friend was looking for.
But for my first question, I'd rather not get a full-fledged portable DVD player, I don't need that. I'd rather not pay extra for the video screen and all other related parts. More features = more things to go wrong.

Then is what you are looking for made?

Wallymart had the Philips for 65 bucks. It seems cheap after I plugged in some speakers for some player to play a 4.7GB DVD of media.

We still have google and such to hunt down what you are looking for. But I wonder if price will become a factor.

I didn't realize you could get portable dvd players for under $75. In that case, I might look at them too. I was searching google, found a lot of people searching for similar things, but very few real (other than dvd players) results, two in fact. Thanks, you've been a great help.

Just curious, any idea when portable blu-rays will be available? 2008, 2009? I've looked around but havn't found anything projecting that far yet.
