Two separate Vista laptops cannot access my wireless interne

Apr 4, 2007 10:59PM PDT

So I bought two different laptops yesterday (one for me and one for my wife...one is a Gateway the other a Compaq). As with all new laptops, both come with Vista. The connection to my wireless seemed to be pretty easy. Both can see my wireless network, but neither can actually log on to it. When I double click on the network, I am prompted for my password, but it can never connect. I have a Dell desktop and an IMac that both use the wireless effortlessly. The router I am using is a Motorola WR850G. I am completely clueless on Vista...it is almost like they made the wireless connections idiot proof, but somehow it is so idiot-proof that I dont know how to go in and fix things if it doesnt work. I have doublechecked the settings in my router and confirmed that specs for security in the wireless network properties match (WPA security type and the encryption type being TKIP).

Any suggestions...or can anyone point me to a topic on the board? I browsed some wireless topics, but all of them seemed different than my issue.

I have a HP Pavilion tx1000
I had the same thing and after 140 dollors with HP tec support we got it working.
The next day I had the same problem agin.
I finally figured out my own problem.
I had to turn of my firewalls when I go on the network.
I could not see or open up any files on the other computers.
When I go on the internet I turn it back on.

until I turned off HP's wireless assistant. I also went into the wireless settings and found the choice to automatically connect whether the SSID is broadcasted or not. That solved the problem for me. Now if I can figure out how to network it, things will be good.

I like Vista but, I've never understood why Microsoft changes some tasks.
