To fix that, a new panel. I am guessing this was not there when new and it's just aging.
Pixelly is something folk complained a lot as the move from ratty NTSC to digital happened. There's a limited color palette so it would take a long write to cover why. But pretty normal and upsetting to folk that want pixel perfect screens.
Not that all is lost here, move between various shades of that color." That reminds me of Samsung Plasma sets that the tech needed to adjust drive levels. Not user serviceable so get an estimate.
I have two 65 inch Panasonic Plasma televisions: a GT50 bought in 2012 and a VT60 bought in 2014.
I was hoping to get some input on a couple issues I have with them.
1. Common to both tvs is an issue I don't have a name for. Basically, what I experience is a difficulty in certain scenes for my screens to be able to figure out what color an image should be, so in a blocky, pixellated way it seems to shift and move between various shades of that color. I notice this most in dark scenes but I've seen it in scenes as random as the library scenes from The Breakfast Club too. (There, it was mostly the columns in the bookshelves.) I've tried to upload a cellphone picture I took tonight from the NFL Network as an example. It's everywhere here--blues and purples of various shades, which might not be so terrible, but they are constantly shifting, swirling from one color to the next. (I'm sure what I'm seeing has a name--it's almost like a campfire effect.) I'm amazed at how many shades are just beneath the "Fri" in the image I posted.
So, is this a thing? I just switched from Uverse to DirecTV, hoping that would fix it, but it did not. Do I have unreasonable expectations? (I thought these plasmas would prevent this type of issue, but maybe sometimes I notice it on other, smaller tvs in the house, just to a lesser degree.) Am I too close to the TV? (I don't think this is it--I may not be the appropriate distance from a 65 inch but still a good 12-16 feet.) Am I missing an easy fix or setting? Most of the time I don't notice it but the 5% of the time I do drives me crazy, especially when the whole screen is doing it.
2. The second issue is only to the GT50, but in the past couple weeks I've noticed a pinkish/purple line going horizontally across the TV. It's usually close to the very top but sometimes it's about 6 pixels down. Usually it's about two pixels wide but I've seen it as big as 5 pixels. If I put a Blu-Ray in it usually goes away, but not for TV or an Xbox game. Is this indicative of something wrong internally?
Thanks for any advice. I'm tempted to just go buy a 4K LCD for almost half of what I paid for these, partly because of the few A/V guys in my area no one wants to come look at them and there's no way I'm shipping these things to anybody. Again, any help/opinions would be most appreciated.
