Two Issues

by egiro25 / November 8, 2004 10:30 AM PST

I'm running Windows XP. I have a couple of problems. 1. I'll be working on something and all of sudden the computer freezes, blue box pops up that says "Off Mode in 5 Seconds", it goes black and then returns to where I was at. No loss of anything just a hassle.
2. A little box pops up that says "Windows Virtual Memory Low" and says that win is looking for more. I have plenty of **** space. What is this?
If anyone knows whats going on with my com I would love some help. I'm not too computer saavy so keep in mind.

Thanks, egiro25

You will have to shut down programs running at boot to find out what is turning off in 5 secs.

As for low virtual memory.
Right Click on My Computer -> properties -> advanced -> performance settings -> advanced -> virtual memory area (click change) -> in the CUSTOM SIZE settings
put the starting number to 1.5 times your memory
max number to 3 times your memory(not a hard and fast rule)

128megs = 192 min 512 max (won't hurt) and you need ram if you only have 128
256megs = 384 min 768 max
512megs = 768 min 1536 max

Thanks for the reply. My mem is already at 768 min, 1536 max. Ummm, how do you shut down programs running at boot? Is this something that happens to other comps?
