Two IDE Harddrives to One Sata Hardrive.

Nov 8, 2004 11:44AM PST

Alright i have Windows XP Home with the MSI K8N Neo board which supports Serial ATA Hardrives. Im planning on getting Serial ATA harddrive to replace my 2 IDE Hardives, and im wondering if theres anyway i could just copy all the files i have from the two into the one SATA Hardrive, so my operating system and all my files work like they used to, but with just the one SATA harddrive. Also if anyone knows what the plusses are to go from IDE to SATA. Thanks, Brad

I could use Norton's GHOST to copy the OS drive to the new drive, but the second drive poses a problem only if you installed "programs" there. The XP OS is not object-oriented so a simple copy from the second ide drive will move the files but programs will need to be reinstalled.

No known software covers this issue.

would that make for a loss of cd keys from games?

No.

My games still had the CDKEYS on the game packages and were still readable.
