Feb 21, 2013 5:26PM PST

Hi, I have a SONY KDL 55EX710.

We moved the TV to another house and now it has an image failure, the 20% of the screen, on the left side, is totally WHITE, and the colors are shiny.

A Sony service wasked 1.300 € to repair it!!

Any solution to repair by my own?

The firmware is updated and I cleaned the connections on the rear panel.

Thank you so much!

Oscar

Unless you are a better tech and have better tools and have better info than that Sony tech i don't think you can do anything yourself.
In such cases, usually repair is just replacing the broken parts. So it seems he replaced the wrong parts or not enough parts. You didn't pay for that, I assume?

No, the service only gave me the quotation, it is not repared.

Don't make sense, 1.300 € is the price of a new TV, more modern...

Sadly, as you do more repairs, it will make sense.

Parts and labor can often exceed the price of a replacement.

You'll see this in cars, laptops and just about everything. The reason TVs have mostly become irreparable is not that they can't be repaired but the cost to repair can exceed or be too close to the cost to replace.

Some folk think that they are getting ripped off but in most cases, if the part is something like the display panel, the cost is almost always too close to the replacement cost.

There's more about this but this is a small text box so I'll stop here.

Hi
This is very common issue with these tv's. Problem is, the ribbon which is attatched to the tv panel itself is damaged, need to repair the ribbon(tab). We are spcialized in replacing ribbons but it is costly repair,($550-650)

Thanks

Thank you for your replies!

Considering the price difference, I think that it is better not to carry risk and buy a new one.
