Also, if the TV is only 720p I read this far too often. Fix? Use a 1080p HDTV.
it works perfect with hdmi/appletv2 that uses 720p,
and no i dont want to throw away the tv
why does it only work for appletv2?? 
I don't claim to have a fix but when this happens it always seems to be on a 720p HDTV. I hope you tried the usual PS3/4 video setting resets and then that's about all that can be done.

And upsets folk so I don't get into it. And knowing why has yet to fix it.
Again, it's a common problem which only Sony can address. One workaround is to connect to a good 720p TV and set the video mode there and then take it to the non-working 720p TV and hope it works.
There are folk that have tried to fix this by asking over and over. Yes it can be a bum HDMI cable or a TV setting that is specific to that TV but so far those are rare things. Your TV maker has to be asked about that.
