TV and phone features not working, tough problem

by c7k / April 6, 2011 5:58 AM PDT

Hello, I hope you can help me but if not then I think this question will need to reach someone like a software developer or product manager. I have already asked help from samsung many times, tier3 smartphone support and tier2 TV support, a TV "product specialist" was consulted by tier2 too. I have searched the web for answers many hours in addition to that.

I have a UN40C7000WFXZA. There are features listed in its user manual on pages 55 and 56 which allow it to interact with a mobile phone, especially samsung mobile phones.

#1 The ability to recieve popup notifications of phone calls, SMS messages, and calendar events on your TV screen. I have found there are 3rd party apps available on the android marketplace that partially enable this feature, I would rather not use those, I want to do it the correct way and fully enable the feature.

#2 A screen sharing capability named "ScreenShare", to mirror the screen of a samsung phone to the TV via wifi. The manual says there is an app required to install on your phone to enable this but I did not find one. After searching the net I found that Samsung was at CES 2011 showing off a new version of allshare which will include screenshare too. That app was supposed to have been put on the android store last month but it has not. Surely there must be an older app that enables screenshare somewhere, because this feature is listed in all the TV manuals for the 2009 B, 2010 C, and 2011 D series. Where is this new allshare app that was promised, or where is the older screenshare app? None is found in the android marketplace.

#3 Ability to access a menu screen on the TV titled "My Mobile" which contains the icons: Contacts, Calendar, Doc Viewer. This would let you see your contact list, send calls and SMS messages, look at your calendar, and read .doc files, all directly from the TV. I cannot find how to access this menu, a screenshot of it is in the manual on pg56.

My phone is a galaxy S, 2010 model (sprint epic 4g) and the TV is also a 2010 C7000 model. The TV is connected via ethernet cable to a wireless router, and the phone is connected via wifi to the router. I am not sure if these features require any port forwarding in the router, or use of a linkstick adapter on the TV. Searching on the net has shown that the TV uses port 52235 and port 52396, with 52235 being a port used for the alert messages.

I do have an allshare app on my phone and can share media with it to the TV, it does not appear to have any additional functionality.

I have links to more info about the missing features below if you need to research it.

c7k,

Let me look into it. I'm not sure what I'll be able to find, but I'll see if I can get some answers to your questions.

I have exactly the same TV and Galaxy Tab, and same problem, TV manual promise a lot, reality is it cannot be done as the galagy Tab and S do not have screen share allshare function, thus get the next upgrade.. perhaps galaxy S2...

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
