Resolved Question

TV

Mar 7, 2018 4:38PM PST

I have a non smart samsung tv model un32eh4003e that I’m trying to get hooked up to my sony(old school) surround sound. The surround sound is non hdmi.

I’ve tried AV cords from tv to surround but doesn’t work. The tv doesn’t have an optical option either.

Any suggestions?

Since Samsungs rarely pass HD Audio

You did leave out what the old surround sound was but since it is surround sound and Samsung rarely pass surround or HD audio you usually have to jury-rig this with a HD audio extractor. There are so many that I will shortchange you with a quick setup and a link.

Setup: HDMI source through HDMI audio exctractor to the HDTV.

Edited to correct grammar.

So just to clarify it should go hdmi from the tv to the audio extractor and then av cord from the extractor to the surround sound?

Nope.

Sorry if that was unclear.

Setup: HDMI source through HDMI audio exctractor to the HDTV.

The HDMI source has to go to the extractor first to peel out the audio. Then the video moves from extractor to the HDTV.

But YES, the audio cord, be that optical or your choice of other goes from extractor to the surround system. In this case with this extractor the ANALOG IS JUST STEREO. So optical is preferred.
