Turning off computer in XP Home

Aug 31, 2007 10:36PM PDT

takes three mouse clicks. I had a small program as a shortcut in W98 that did this with one mouse click. However it does not work in xp.It used Rundll.Exe to accomplish this. If there is an xp equivalent would appreciate finding out about it. So far most of the books on xp I have found are simply verbose padded explanations of how to surf the internet and dont really get down to the nitty gritty.

Shutdown and reboot shortcuts.

Try these;

Desktop Shutdown shortcut
Right click on the desktop
Click [New] [Shortcut] to open the Create Shortcut Wizard
Type [shutdown -s -t 00] without the brackets.
Click [Next] and type a descriptive name of your choosing for the shortcut
Click [Finish]

Desktop Reboot shortcut
Right click on the desktop
Click [New] [Shortcut] to open the Create Shortcut Wizard
Type [shutdown -r -t 00] without the brackets.
Click [Next] and type a descriptive name of your choosing for the shortcut
Click [Finish]

To add your own icons to the shortcuts, right click the shortcut, Properties, Shortcut tab, click "Change icon".

I hope that helps.

ShutDown

There is also a program by RJL software (Google that one...) called Shutdown. Its less than 100K and is great for systems like Windows 2000 that don't have the "shutdown.exe" built in.
