Tungsten C - battery & programs

Mar 3, 2005 10:06AM PST

I have a Tungsten C - 1 year old. Like it a lot. However, I am finding that even with hours of charging, within 5 minutes of turning it on, the battery monitor drops 1/3. In addition, I have downloaded programs, opened them and prepared them for hot sync, but after the sync, the programs are nowhere to be found on the Palm although the log says they were installed. I have a 64m card in the unit as well, and that memory remains at 59 - so I wonder where the programs are going - not any place I can see. I would appreciate any suggestions since Palm does not have any for me.

Palm Tungsten Problems

Bob, Thank you for the information, and the link to loads of issues regarding the battery problem and getting your data back. I really appreciate your help with this, and will do the complete "take down, charge overnight, and try to resynch before going to work.

Palm Tungsten C problems
Mar 9, 2005 9:17AM PST

The web site you sent me to was great. Did the whole take down, echarge then reinstall. Battery now will only go to 1/2, and drops quickly. I am trying to find a place to sell me a new battery. One place was out of stock, but it was less than 40.00. Palm wants 125.00 to replace a battery. There is an external unit Palm sells that acts like a cradle, but has it's own battery, and can therefore charge the Palm some. But I think that a year old unit should not have a battery gone so quickly - it has no memory effect, and I think it may have been damaged during airport security.
Thakns for the help - I like the Tungsten, so I 'm going to keep on trying - besides - it was lots of $$$.

Luck.

Part of this is luck. I have a IIIc that is now 4 years old and I think (maybe) it is starting to lose some battery life. But I rewrote my software to be more spendthrift and all of a sudden I can run twice as long so maybe it was just my code (again).

I'm sure the out of stock will come back in stock someday. Lots of call for that one since the unit was pricey...

Battery - Tungsten

I took your suggestion Bob and did the whole process again - total backup, wipe it out with a hard reset, charge for 18 hours, then bring all the data in again. Some programs still do not work, but most are much better, the battery appears to take a full charge and overall functions better. Because this has a memory card (64) I reloaded some programs there so that it would not all be draining the system unless I was using them. That helped as well. So thanks for the advice - the unit needed more than one hard reset and time with charging.
