tuner vs receiver??? this is probably a stupid question...

by mizlene / December 16, 2007 7:45 AM PST

Here is what I have and what I want to do...I have a home theater surround sound speaker system with ports to plug in audio accessories, tv, vcr, cd player etc...I do not have a am/fm radio tuner included in anything here but that is what I'd like to have on this system. My question is..which do I need for this to work, do I need an am/fm stereo tuner or do I need an am/fm stereo receiver/amplifier...I just simply want a stereo radio to work with my surround sound home theater speaker system. Any help would be appreciated...Thanks in advance...

What model HTIB (home theater in a box)?
by NM_Bill / December 16, 2007 6:24 PM PST

It has a power source of some kind - usually a receiver which is an integrated (power plus pre-ampliier controller)

The speakers don't just work on their own. They need amplified power as the TV itself, with a built in speaker is most always insufficient for powering a whole set of exterior speakers.

A tuner (just the radio part, but without amplified power source) can easily be added onto an amplifier.

Meet the drop-resistant Moto Z2 Force

The Moto Z2 Force is really thin, with a fast processor and great battery life. It can survive drops without shattering.
