We already had a start BUTTON w/o menu
Apr 7, 2014 6:07AM PDT

This doesn't bring back the start menu either according to this and another article I've read. This article does say they'll add it back in later. What the delay is baffles me because the start menu is already there under the covers, and can be easily found by doing a search. Somebody at MS must think that if they delay it long enough, people will learn to be happy with what they're pushing now. Sad If so, all I can say is they were wrong two years ago and they're wrong now. Angry

You're right wpg

I misread that as "They will bring back the start menu this Tuesday". So I won't get rid of Classic Shell just yet. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

Answer
I just installed the Spring update on 2 PCs
Apr 8, 2014 6:44AM PDT

I looked with Windows Update, but it wasn't there, so I did some searches and found KB2919355 and KB2934018 for 8.1 64 bit, so I downloaded them from the MS download site. The good news here is that you don't have to download & install them via that Windows Store. I've installed them on my two test PCs and am currently running backups. The updates are around 800 MB as expected, and they took about 45 min. to install. I haven't seen any adverse effects, but have yet to look at any changes with the Metro stuff. I did notice a shortcut to the Store is now on the taskbar. When opened, sure enough it has the expected - and X for minimizing and canceling; just think - it only took them 2 years to come around to putting that there!
