Trying to switch between the two MSN.com styles

Jan 29, 2010 11:19AM PST

This may not make a lot of sense, however, there are now two styles of the MSN.com Homepage. I am using IE8 with windows xp. Sometimes when I install XP with IE8, I end up with one style of MSN.com homepage and sometimes with the other. Some people prefer one way, some the other. Basically the newer style has a white background (default) with pull down menus. The older style has a blue background without pull down menus.

How do you switch between them? The url is always www.msn.com. But there are two entirely different webpages that show up.

Anyone have a clue as to what I am asking?

Thanks!
Frank

Try entering www.preview.msn.com if you wish to view the updated version. Eventually you will always see this version, however MSN is currently transitioning into this new look and feel for the home page.

www.preview.msn.com didn't work.

Thanks for the reply. www.preview.msn.com seems to be a dead link.

Earlier today I went to www.msn.com and amazingly, the old style appeared. I figured I must have selected some option for that to happen. I just now tried the link you stated and it was dead, but www.msn.com now shows the new style.

I can't say I understand.

Thanks,
Frank

Clarification...

Jeff's right that it is a beta version of the MSN homepage, currently displayed to random individuals at random times to generate user feedback before it becomes the default. You can access it manually, but the link he posted was broken; the actual link is http://preview.msn.com (without the www). Bookmark that one and you should be all set.

Hope this helps,
John

That worked. Thanks!

While my IE8 always shows the new style, I also have Fire Fox, which shows the old version. So I was able to type the "preview" URL into FF and indeed the old style shifts to the new one!!!

I suppose there is no way to display the old one when only the new one shows up (?)

A friend wants the new style, which she prefers over the old one (unlike me). So the "preview" URL will take care of her.

Thanks for the help!

Brace yourself as eventually you will only be seeing the new layout Sad

It'll be fine.

That's OK!

Truth is, I've come to realize over the past 2 or 3 decades that when Microsoft makes changes, they are for the better. And it is enjoybable to go with the flow and appreciate all the research and improvements that have gone into making the changes.

Thanks for your support!

I had luck by not using www. Instead I tried http://my.msn.com/

Don't know if this will work for anyone else.
