Trying to strip down and do a restore

Nov 25, 2003 9:55AM PST

About a year and a half ago I got a virus and was told the best way to fix it would be to do a restore and reboot, stripping my computer down to nothing, and restoring it to what it was like when I took it out of the box. I did that, it worked great, and I loved having a "fast" computer again (for a while at least). I have an emachines366 with 64MB (win9Cool. Anyways I wanted to do it again because I seem to have so many errors and glitches going on, and am down to 32% free space. So I have my restore & reboot cd, but cannot remember how we did it! Can someone please tell me how to get started? When I put the cd in it does not auto prompt for anything. Do I have to erase one way and then put the cd in to restore? TIA...

The usual course is to backup whatever files your do not want to lose, to some external media such as floppy/CDR/networked computer. Then put the restore cd in the drive and restart the computer. The bootable cd will show you the rest of the way.

All my pictires, documents, etc. have been saved so I was ready to go,. The one thing I did not do though was to restart it after I put the cd in. I will try that now- thank you!
