Trying to pick out a good quiet CPU Cooling Fan

Dec 23, 2004 7:43AM PST

I had a quick question, i built myself a computer a yr ago and it is running a amd 2400+ on a Asus a7n8x-e deluxe board with 512 mb ddr dual memory, i have a 450watt power supply and 2 rear case fans 80mm, but the cpu cooling fan is just noisy as can be, so i went and bought just a basic adapted cooling fan from best buy and just sits there and spins at 5500 - 6000 rpm even with q fan enabled on the board, any suggestions on what i could get to make this thing quieter.

Thanks

Thanks Bob, thats sounds pretty good for a 80 mm case fan but what about for the cpu fan that goes on top of your heatsink

I've ordered from them before and it's been quick ship and friendly people too.

Use a case fan on the heatsink

I use a thermalright sold copper heatsink and an 80mm fan. The new ones can mount a 92mm fan. On top of this i mounted a variable speed thermaltake smart case fan. I put the control aout the back of the pc. I can then adjust the rpm for 1800 - 4800 rpm. I usually have it set to about 3000 rpm so that it is not louder than the other fans.
