TRYING TO COPY FROM VHS - BUT SOUND CUTS OUT....

Aug 17, 2004 12:18PM PDT

i have a P3-866 w/ (1)256 Ram and (1)128 Ram, using XP, mono VCR, sound card that came w/ the computer, and trying to use Pinnacle Studio 9.

the video comes out fine...no problem...but the sound cuts out half way through the recording process. i find this out when i am in edit mode.

the VCR audio is connected to the Mic-in port of my sound card, which is what i am setting the audio record control to in Studio. am i supposed to mute other recording devices (stereo mixing, line-in...etc.) in my volume settings?

other than the sound everything else about the recording process seems to be fine. i would appreciate any insight. i've been looking on the board for someone else w/ this problem but have found none as yet. thanks.

First (not a solution to the problem!), the audio from the VCR should be connected to the "Line In" of the sound card.

I presume that the sound track is complete in the VHS tape (!).

One likely problem is the freespace in Drive C. Most programs use this as a temporary location, and if it fills up, then nothing more will be recorded.
I hav'nt used Pinnacle, but just check whether there is any option for storing the temporary files, and if there is, use the largest free space drive.

If the Line-up or diskspace doesn't help, consider:

1. Latest drivers for motherboard and sound card. Microsoft doesn't do this for you.

2. Try another sound card.
