I loved the Tom Baker years - and much later David Tennant's Doctor was pretty good too. My Mom's coworker, a lovely elderly Yorkshire woman, hated the show ( she did not like sci-fi or fantasy of any stripe ) - called it "rubbish!" and always wished it was deleted from the PBS line-up to make room for "better television" as she put it. I asked her once what she considered better and she said "anything!" rather forcefully... :^)

when it was hyped for months that 'The Doctor' was coming back for a new season (was it last year?) and made it seem that the actual SHOW was being resurrected.....and it was a nothing burger with one, maybe two, episodes and gone again. I was a huge fan after watching a few episodes of season five or so and actually had my 'on demand' set to record every and all seasons so I could start at the beginning of the series. Arrow was another favorite of mine (not to mention X-files)…...and Charmed and Angel (the spin off from Buffy). The new Charmed is garbage compared to the original. Give me a good sci-fi series any day rather than all the SVU depressing crap where you never see anybody actually smile even once for an entire hour.
There were only a couple of episodes and then gone...poof. Wondering, since no new 'season' mentions, if complaints from fans got it pulled early and possibly canceled. The PC population is ruining so much that the fun is taken out of everything anymore. Have to admit that the female who took over the role was pretty funny because of her 'confusion' as a female now, but still couldn't hold a candle to past Doctors. After a few episodes though that funniness wasn't enough to hold my interest. Perhaps new writers could help???
and I'd imagine since the series has been so popular for decades that _some_ version will be produced. One would think the powers
that be would recruit established sci-fi genre writers like the original Star Trek and subsequent series did. Or just good screenwriters in general - the "cachet" of writing for the show would be enough to have them clamoring for the work, one would think?
