Question

Troubleshooting Windows on boot

Aug 13, 2018 10:06PM PDT

Recently we purchased a computer from £65 from Facebook, as it had an I7 processor we thought it was a really deal, things started normally and the OS was running fine. The computer said it needed to download updates so obliged and installed all updates, I turned the computer on one morning and the computer would not boot an left me with a blank screen, we managed to get it into recovery mode and made a recovery disk put into the machine, this enabled the windows sign in screen to appear. It said other user and gave me the opportunity to enter an email address and password, however I have no idea what email address it is or the password it is as I have used all the email addresses associated with the computer. We accessed recovery using the reset/power using the shift key on the logo on the sign in screen, I also recently learnt the registry had corrupted itself, the only way to talk to the OS is through Cmd, Also the computer will not let me boot into safe mode. My girlfriend did snap the USB out of the port moving suitcases around the other morning. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I need a computer for college in September.

- What is "recovery mode" and how did you get into it?
- Where did that "recovery disk" come from?
- What exactly did you do with that recovery disk?
- How did you learn the registry was corrupted?
- How do you talk to the OS if you can't even login?
- What is the relation between this issue and the USB snapped out by your girlfriend?

Sorry I was meant to say safe mode, we downloaded the recovery disk from using the built in function in control panel on another computer, we learnt that the registry was corrupted by using the command prompt and utilising the DISM and googled error code 50, half way through the process of data transfer the USB was broken, wondering if that would have caused problems for user accounts. I currently have Windows sign in screen, but unable to login.
