Firmware on cable modems is pushed by the operator. This has been this way since the beginning. Nothing new for me to add here.
THAT UPDATE MAY BREAK YOUR BROWSER. That is, on some I had to use IE to configure. I don't feel like writing more on that.
Routers start at 20 bucks so you may want to take back control if IE doesn't help you configure it.
Greetings and Thank you so much for your help. I consider my self fairly well computer literate but I have encounter an issue that I can’t figure out. Here is the specs/setup then I will talk about things I have tried.
Modem/Router = NetGear C3000-100NAS
Device was on Cox with zero issues
Relocated out of the Cox area and signed up with a company called MediaCom.
Using the same router (confirmed it was ok with the ISP)
When I got home this afternoon I fired up my laptop and only 1 of my SSID’s was broadcasting (the non-Guest). I tried to log into the router via http://192.168.0.1 or http://routerlogin.net and neither one would connect. I did some searching and I found a post that indicated to try 192.168.100.1 for the connection IP. I was able to connect and log in using my existing admin account I had created.
When I logged in I noticed I had about 1/5 of the options available that I used to have. There was only the cable connection and the wireless connection option. I wondered if it was a firmware issue and started looking down that trek. It appears that firmware is pushed by the ISP so it was outside of my control.
I tried to open the “wireless” options but it was if they were locked down. Mouse clicks did nothing, tabbing to it did nothing, trying another browser did nothing.
I fired up my desktop that has genie installed and I was unable to connect at all. Thinking that was odd I pulled out my phone and tablet and they are unable to connect, the android items hang at obtaining IP, the desktop is windows 10 and gets unidentified network with no internet.
I then started searching why only 1 device could connect via wireless and it indicated that it was the router thinking the 1 connection was lan (https://community.netgear.com/t5/WiFi-Routers-802-11b-g-n-Legacy/Router-only-allowing-internet-access-to-1-device/td-p/457645) (http://superuser.com/questions/691371/why-is-only-one-device-being-allowed-on-the-internet-through-my-asus-router)
I can’t get deep enough into the Admin console to check anything due to it not opening. I did a factory reset and connected to the router again, I was able to log back in and I am still having the exact same issue. Advice?
PS the only working device is a win 7 laptop.
