Question

Troubleshoot Dell Inspiron One - No Video - Black Screen

Apr 6, 2016 7:42PM PDT

I work on seniors' computers free of charge - mainly get virus issues and other easy problems. Received a Dell Inspiron One with no video. The power light is steady amber (at not point is it white), The light on the brick is blue. Hdd starts but seems to go into a quiet state rather quickly. Tried a second identical Dell power brick - same result. They are real light users - claim the computer just went black - no downloads, no upgrades etc (they did move to Windows 10 perhaps six months ago). They have never cracked open the unit - looks like it is brand new. Suggestions?

Clarification Request
did you try on external monitor?

shine a flashlight on the attached screen, see if the monitor is getting the opening page, but maybe the backlight is burnt, although if it went completely black, it might also be the invertor. Check videos on youtube about cathode and/or inverter replacements.

Just a safety note. Dangerous Voltages there.

The high voltages in the system are a potential safety hazard. If you go inside, be sure you've had some training about working with potentially lethal voltages.
