Trouble with Orvibo S20 Sockets

Feb 8, 2019 5:34AM PST

I have 4 Orvibo S20 sockets. They seem to be rendered almost useless just recently. Despite several resets they are only capable of remote on/off but do not operate in the timer mode. The app allows adding timing events to be set on all the sockets but nothing actually happens. The countdown timer does work sometimes on some of the sockets. I unwrapped a sealed "new" one which I received at Christmas 2017 but this one is just as bad as the other 4.
I have two versions of the WiWo app:
1. Wifi smart sockets V01.01.012 on a Samsung S7E SM-G935F running Android ver: 8.0.0 and
2. ver: V3.2.50 from Dynacomm on a Samsung SM-T20 Tablet Android ver: 4.1.2
Both of these different apps have their quirks and have wasted hours of my time over the last 3 years. Generally I can get things working but now have this new problem outlined above..
The hardware is beautifully crafted but the firmware / software does not seem up to the job. HELP. I have emailed support@orvibo.com but have not received any response so far.

This is a real issue.

Most of these don't use open source software so when it breaks you end up replacing the sockets with a new maker. At best you ask and get a refund on the failed product.

Trouble with Orvibo S20 sockets

Thank you R Proffitt for your reply. I was hoping for something more positive but I fear you may be right. I think some of my sockets were purchased through Amazon so I will try jumping through all the hoops to see what they can offer. They are still "stocking" similar items but with Orvibo's reputation I am surprised that Amazon would want to be involved.

Any other comments would be welcome.

Somewhere in middle of 2019 orvibo ceased the operation of the NTP alike service that was able to keep the S20 socket UTC time synchronised. As a consequence, the socket clock defaults to 1 january 1900 each time the sockets are unplugged.
If you are able to run your own web server you can use this web app which implements a web interface to control Orvibo S20 sockets/switches attached to the local network .. see https://github.com/fernadosilva/orvfms

Trouble resoved!

To be fair I can & perhaps should have updated this post a while back. I Think the breakthrough was an updated app from Orvibo which seems to work in a reasonable fashion. Wiwo V3.2.50 on a Samsung S7e is the one I am using now. I have 5 sockets and they have been extremely reliable with this app version.
Recently there have been some messy power outages on, off & on in rapid succession. This can throw some or all of the sockets off time but the app fixes this quite easily. Making changes to the timers require the 'phone & socket to be on the same wifi router / extender. The other thing is if the socket gets locked it needs a complete reset.

S20 Life Extender

This is a little Arduino ESP8266 sketch that will synchronise the time on the old S20 sockets, now that the Orvibo time server for them seems to have been decommissioned around mid 2019.
You can still use the Wiwo app to program them.
