Trouble with Firefox and Win2000

Mar 6, 2005 12:29PM PST

I love this new firefox, if it would just work!

About every other time I try to start the browser, it locks up. Task Manager refuses to tell me FF is locked until I end task, and wait for the popup window to tell me that this program is not responding. Well...Duh, I can see that. Using FF 1.0.1 and Windows 2000 Pro with latest updates. IE works well enough on this machine, but I hate all the spyware that I continually destroy with Ad-Aware and Spyware Blaster. Using AVG Free Edition. All with latest updates.

Any Ideas out there? If your patient enough, I'll be back here about once a day to check on responses. Dial-up is iffy here, with no way to get broadband short of going broke on satellite hookup.

Thanks all

You may need to ...

Repeat what someone else did and I ran into only twice. Uninstall it, and then delete the mozill directories.

Thank you for the report back. While this is a small forum, this procedure seems to working for the 5 people that have needed it.

Works more often than not, but still locks up occasionally. Any other suggestions?

I should mention that it works fine on my WinXP machine.

Firefox has been tossed...

This Mozilla looks a lot like the old Netscape Navigator. I will try this for a time. Thanks again Mr. Proffit.

Mozilla also has been tossed...

Mozilla acting exactly like Firefox... Locks up on about every other startup. I'll be using IE until I find a browser that works.

Thanks all.

Did you delete the profile folder when uninstalling?
Mar 12, 2005 2:14PM PST

It's at C:\Documents and Settings\[User Name]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\. Be sure to export your favorites with the bookmark manager first. File > Export.

Sun's Java plugin was the issue
Mar 14, 2005 2:31PM PST

I had installed the java plugin to enable the card games that I play at yahoo games. After uninstalling that, all is well with Firefox and Mozilla.

I am confused though as to why IE does not need that, but the others require.
