Trouble with Canon Powershot S2 IS

Nov 28, 2008 10:35AM PST

My Canon S2 is about 2 years old. Lately, I have no image in the viewfinder, so I can't take pictures. I press display, but the viewing image is still not there. Is this a known problem? Do I have to send it to Canon to be fixed?

I assume that you can review previously taken photos, that are on your memory card, on the LCD screen.

That would indicate that the CCD sensor is not functioning.
There are several reports of this type of failure.
It requires the replacement of the CCD sensor.

You should contact Canon Service.
It is faster to contact them by phone that using email.

Yes, I can view previous pictures. I was hoping there was an easy fix for the CCD sensor. I have tried the fix to change the mode to Tv, press the shutter, open the battery case, close the battery case, try again. It works temporarily, but the shutter is still stuck when I turn on the camera the next time. It looks like my camera is not one of the ones that Canon is fixing for free.

Has the S2 CCD sensor been added?

Does anyone know if the CCD sensor of the Canon S2 has been added to the list that Canon will fix free of charge? I have not been able to find this particular model on the recall list.

at this point

It's probably better to get a new one. It's an electronic device that's pretty old(for electronics), and they have improved upon them some.
