Trouble with a Game

Feb 11, 2004 2:18PM PST

Not sure if this forum is in to helping resolve problems in Adventure game play. If so I am having trouble with a Tex Murphy game - Under a Killing Moon. At one scene the action stops and just freezes. Have tried rebooting, shutting PC down and restarting all to no avail. Am playing on Win98SE.

Have tried several game sites for answers but so far received neither a tech response nor a saved game for this place where I am stopped.

Would appreciate any help you might suggest.

This can have a lot of causes.

Nearby, for example, is a post by Glenda (labeled 'vsdata95.vxd'), who had the about the same problem (for another game) and resolved it by uninstalling two other programs (and using regedit to clean the remainders the uninstall didn't do).

Possible causes include:
- outdated video driver: download and install the latest one
- outdated video card: buy a new one
- outdated directX: install latest version
- interfering other programs (see above): try stopping or killing everything you don't need to run the game for the regular program, and run the Anti-Parasite Suite (see Security Forum) for the malware.

If the freezing occurs at random points there can be other hardware issues also. Most likely: heat and insufficient power supply. But if the freezing is reproducible at the same point in the game, this does seem unlikely.

Thank you so much for all your info - most valuable and will run through and try to apply all that might be causing the problem.

Again I thank you because all other sites I have tried have not responded at all so maybe the issue was too technical for them.

Off and running to work on the games now.
