trouble using win98 with version of sb live! 100

I have been repeatively having problems in trying to to play a album on my windows medea under winxp using sound blaster live! 5.1. Previously to this there was no problem using the same software under win98. is the coresponding os all compatible to windows 98 os? when I used it with the Win XP only 2 of my 4 surround speakers as well as items would work and them they wouldn't work. I purchased the 'creative labs sound blaster audigy SE cl sb0570'. I asked if the software for this was explicity for winXt and was told it was so I was assurred that this will fix this problem as well as assurring that winxt software are present in other areas where they are needed. Does this sound ok? also? has anyone ever heard of the following error when trying to delete a sound blaster 5.1 live! application?.
"error # ox80040201 an event was unable to involve any of the subscribers" it this because live the problem previously where the difference in the version dates is causing a violation protection?
