Trouble updating iphone 3g to iOS4

Jun 24, 2010 10:08AM PDT

Is anyone else having trouble updating their iphone 3g from iOS 3.1.3 to iOS4? I've tried several times but never get past about 1/8 in. of the bar for backing up the phone, even after 2 hours. I've got a 14.64 GB capacity, less than 2/3 used. My computer is a MacBook Pro using OSX 10.6.4, and I've had no problems with backing up the phone during sync. If I saw any progress in the bar, I would be patient (after all, that's what the bar is for), but I have the feeling that no matter how long I wait, it's never going to finish. And might I be damaging something by leaving it "hung up"?

Trouble updating iphone3g to i0S4

You are on the right track but you have to be patient because it took me approximately over five hours to download it last week. It must be because to many peoples try to download it at the same time. As for the progress in the bar it will start to really go fast only at the end of the download.
So again, be patient my friend you are not the only one trying to download this new update.

OSX update for 3G iphone

I have now tried 5 times to update to the next operating system (OS4) and get hung up in the back up phase (which is the first part and won't let you go any further). I have left the phone synching for as long as 72 hours without the bar moving more than 1/8 inch. One time I waited 36 hours only to have it abort the operation after backing up. There may be lots of people trying to update, but this not really a comfort nor an adequate excuse.

Ios4 update takes too long!!!

I, like you, couldn't get it to do a full backup, not to mention, (within a resonable amount of time - 40hrs) get it to the actual update. After trying from 3 different computers (2 with Vista & a MacBook pro), reloaded iTunes, changed the proxy settings. Nothing has worked! I have a 3G iPhone, 14.64Gb, little less than 1/2 full, trying to update from ios3 to ios4 Did you resolve this? And how did you ultimately devise a way to get it to update? Any info, would be appreciated.

Ios4 update takes too long - can't get past the back up

I too have an 3G iphone and cannot get it to update to OS4; same story, have let it run for 2 days and it seems that the back up is still going on, however it does not progress past the 3rd bar on the back-up progress bar. Has any one found a reason for the back up not working, and a way to get around this? Any feedback on this is greatly appreciated. Many thanks!
