Trouble setting up wireless printer w/ AVG

by shutley / December 3, 2009 12:56 PM PST

I am trying to add a wireless printer to my laptop, and I am having a hard time getting past the firewall. The error is 'Unable to communicate with your printer at this time. This may be caused by a Firewall. If you are using firewall software, verify UDP port 427 is unblocked from your printer at XXX.XXX.X.XXX to your PC.'

I havve tried the following things:
1. Under Webshield, Web Protection, and entered the IP address in the Exclude area.
2. Under Resident Shield, Exception, I added the UDP, and the IP address.
3. There was something else that I did at first and it has left my mind now.

I am using the Free version, if I need to upgrade the $34 amount, I am able to do that, but I am hopeful this can be resolved without going Pro. I prepaid 2 years of Norton, and have removed them from both of my computers knowing they were slowing everything down.
Thank you,
Stephanie

AVG Free 9.0 is only antivirus and anti-spyware. The firewall is only part of AVG Internet Security suite. So your firewall can't be AVG. So any of the 2 things you mention can't be relevant for the problem. Now find your firewall.

I believe that I may have paid for the AVG Internet Security suite, and I do have an AVG firewall. So can you please help me?

I am now sure that it is an AVG firewall. It was AVG 8.5, and I enabled windows firewall, and disabled the AVG firewall then my problem was solved. But, I still want to know how to correct it, so that I can go back to the AVG firewall vs. Windows. I would feel much better about it. Thank you, Stephanie

You said you had the free version. And Webshield and Resident shield are from the antivirus. So, sorry, I couldn't know you had the paid version including their firewall.

And, sorry again, I can't tell you how to change the AVG Firewall settings. But, probably, one of the AVG people will come along and tell you. In the meantime, see if the user manual from http://www.avg.com/us-en/download-documentation (the one about the antivirus + firewall) helps you.

Hello,

Firewall settings tend to be different for different printers, so easiest way to solve the issue will be to contact our technical support via this webform:
http://www.avg.com/ww-en/customer-support
Your license number will be needed and you will be most likely instructed to provide us with diagnostic data.

You can find your license number directly in main AVG interface in license component.

Thank you

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
