My old HP Pavilion 6736 PC died recently, and I bought another old computer to replace it, a "Compaq Deskpro EN".
Under system properties it says;
System
Microsoft Windows 2000
5.00.2195
Service Pack 4
Computer
x86 family 6 model 8 stepping 3
AT/AT COMPATIBLE
261,552 KB RAM
Upon receiving the PC, I installed the video card, modem and ram from the dead Pavilion, and used this computer to download WinRAR, WinZip, Ad-Aware, and SpywareBlaster.
The PC came with Spybot S&D, and ClamWin antivirus, among a few other programs.
After all of this was finished, I tried installing MSN 8, and am having a bit of trouble using it.
It installs fine, but I am unable to sign up.
When I click "I've already signed up", I was greeted with the following error message;
"We're sorry, we cannot sign you up for MSN because there is a problem with your computer or the MSN service. Please try again later."
I tried to use a version 9 upgrade CD I had, and it also gives me an error.
At first I thought it was a problem with the modem, and tried two others I had.
Same error with all three.
I found an old trial CD for a different ISP, and installed that to see if it'd work.
It did. I connected with no errors at all.
I was even able to use MSN's guest sign-in feature to access my account.
However, I still couldn't use the sign-up wizard.
It still gave the same error, even though I was online.
I've tried calling MSN Customer Support, but was put on hold and forgot about.
At this point I don't know what to do.
I've tried everything I could think of to get MSN to work, and everything has failed.
Anyone have any idea what might be wrong?
