General discussion

Trouble posting in forums.

Aug 7, 2007 3:44PM PDT

When attempting to Preview or Submit replies to http://forums.cnet.com/5208-6142_102-0.html?forumID=5&threadID=259494&messageID=2557788 in the XP forum, and at least one other I don't recall, a new IE6 window opens to either a blank page or to the page where I typed the response but w/o the original poster's message at the bottom. So I am unable to post reply. But it seems to work fine in Opera.

Any body else experiencing this. Or is it a known problem?

If there is a way to prevent or work around this type of problem I'd appreciate a heads-up, as I really don't like using Opera.

Thanks.

Charlie

Works ok for me Charlie, using Firefox.

Perhaps a temporary glitch?

Turns out....

it was being caused by a third party pop-up blocker. All's cool now.

Thanks.

Well it sounded like it was giving you a problem....

and for some reason you tagged Opera as the alternative. IMHO, a choice of two bad browsers when a good one (FF) is available.

But, to each his own.

With little or inconciquential exception, IE6 does what I want it to, when I and how I want it to do it. And almost w/o exception, stays clean and safe the way I use it. That's why it works for me.

The other's cause problems for me. And as far as I'm concerned create a false sense of security, as I figure they are actually about as prone to security problems, both local and remote as any other. And patching of vulnerabilities is a bit more timely with IE. In iether IE, Opera or FF, the user usually has an option wheather or not to load or download and install a virus or other risky file, simply by means of risky behavior. I figure the same pretty much goes for spy/ad ware, which today is much, much more prevalent than viruses. And I beleive viruses are most often delivered by email attachments than by browsing. And that any non-comparable security features result in less functionality. Also FF seems to load slower at startup, and in general has higher system requirements. And while Opera seems to load graphics a bit faster than IE6, Opera takes longer to load. And Opera's visual apperance at my preferred 120dpi does not suite me.

As far as "tagging" Opera. OPera is just a rarely used backup. And while both FF and Opera for some reason tend to overtake default statue on my XP machine, I find Opera the least troublesome from which to recover. This is probably due somehow to my prefernces in browser settings. But my preferences in browser settings suites me.
