Trouble opening Word files

Mar 4, 2006 12:15AM PST

When I try to open Word from some documents -- not all but most -- it opens but I get an error message saying Word experienced an error opening the document and that I should "check the file permissions for the document and drive." It also says to make sure I have sufficient memory and free disk space. And that I should try using the text converter to open the file.

All of these files open correctly from within Word. The problem only occurs when I try to open them by doubleclicking on the file. Again, this happens with most files, but not all of them.

The former discussion was mine and while this problem is linked to that thread, I was advised by Kees to open another thread.

The problem in the other thread was finally found to be the fault of an add-in to Word from a program called Documents to Go.

The document you pointed me to isn't really of any help since there isn't a problem with owning the files, just opening them correctly.

Norton (or other) tools that scan the files during open or block DDE.

Until more clues are supplied, we may have to write in circles until something is revealed.

For instance your Documents to go was never offered. This makes me wonder what else you have installed.
