Trouble installing Works Suite 2005

May 19, 2005 2:48AM PDT

Just bought a copy of WorksSuite 2005 to be installed on my new computer. (Couldn't get the 2000 edition from my old machine to run because I couldn't locate correct Product Key) Slipped in the CD and sat back waiting for installation to begin. Instead, got this message: "Application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005), blah, blah". What seems to be the basic problem here? Machine currently has Works Suite 2000. Windows XP w/SP2, 160GB HDD, 1GB memory, Radeon 9200SE video card.
Have I forgotten anything? Sure hope someone has some ideas. Thanks for your kind help

No, I didn't. Should I?

blah blah is not a Microsoft error message.

They haven't used that one yet.

If that was a typographic error, please add a reply to your post with the full error in "quoted format" for best results.

The "C0000005" most common cause is the user is not an ADMINISTRATOR or same rights or the machine has suffered some spyware or other damage.

Sorry

I didn't consider the remainder to be germain. In it's entirity, the message was "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application." I have administrator rights, and the last check with AdAware and SpyBot was negative.
Thanks, Bob.

How to respond.

Such clues are how we find out what is going on. If you want to tax the forum by omitting such detail, you won't get the benefit of others that may want to help you out.

You are not at some tech support counter. You are here with others working on your issue.

While the error code is consistent with admin type issues, since you have an administrator logon that leaves us with permissions and rights. What can be a learning experience for some is that logging on as administrator does not override permissions and rights. The c0000005 code points to permission issues. Either in the file system or registry.

You should look in the EVENT VIEWER to see if it notes any details about what registry key or file may not be set proper.

Best of luck,

Bob

I consider myself chastised. Got the program installed by the simple expedient of manually opening the CD and clicking on the .exe file. Something I should have thought of before. MS Works 2005 is now installed and working fine, with no more error messages. Thanks for your input. It's really appreciated. You guys have bailed me out many times in the past.

Not a chastisement.

Just trying to get the clues.

Cheers for trying that open the CD. It makes me wonder if the AUTORUN.INF and what it says to run differs from what you ran.

-> There was a note about DMA on/off and install issues with Office but my friend near Redmond told me that they were not going to ever do that again (the code/feature that triggered that issue.)

Of course we've heard that before.
