Trouble installing H-P 2110 PSc on XP Media Center

Mar 7, 2006 3:25AM PST

have a new H-P computer loaded with Microsoft Windows XP Media Center 2005. I also have an H-P PSC printer (2110xi) which I am unable to install. The stated procedure is to run the installation disk with the printer turned off and the USB cable unplugged until you are instructed to connect. The problem is that XP Media Center stops the installation because it finds no USB connection. If the installation is attempted with the printer turned on and connected, only the printer installs, not the scanner nor the HP Program Director. The software installs perfectly on my other computers, one with XP Home and one with XP Pro.

HP customer support has been of no use, telling me my printer is obsolete at three years of age, and causing other problems by 'scrubbing' the printer setups. Any suggestions on how to get the printer to install? The problem must be unique to XP Media Center 2005. Thanks

and yet

my HP LaserJet 4L has kept on ticking through Windows 3.11, 95, 98SE, ME and now XP. My Deskjet 970Cxi has been doing it's thing from 98Se on up. I think a lot of the rub comes with PSC??

Your printer is a printer. The PSC is an AIO...

With some 4 times the complexity.

With your printer, we can lie to it and call it a ... PCL printer...

Printer alone will install...

Thanks for the input. Somewhere on the H-P website I did read that this machine was compatible with XP Media Center. The printer alone will install if I plug in the USB cable and power up before installing. However, only the printer installs, not the software for the scanner, copier options, etc. This is what I am trying to accomplish.

Sometimes I read them writing "the printer is compatible" but you wrote the machine...
