Trouble installing cd configured for win95

by angles456 / May 29, 2004 3:12 PM PDT

We bought a cd with windows 95 and windows 3.1 listed as system requirements for installation. We of course have xphome and cannot view cd. Message reads something like 'Minimum requirement directX 5 or higher", and won't let us proceed. We have latest version of directX installed. What is the problem? Is there any way we can configure our pc to read this disk, or have we wasted our money?

I don't think I can help here but I just want to express something that is really strange here.
1. I have never heard of a cd with win95 and win3.1 combination.
2. There is no reason why XP cannot read a win95 cd.
3. What's directX have to do with all this.

Just weird. Maybe you have been taken, sorry.

Perhaps you can tell more about "...cannot view cd...". What did you do to "view cd" ? Viewing the contents of a cd does not require DirectX.

Windows XP doesn't always work with and often will not install old software. If that CD has requirements for Windows 95 and 3.1, it is old. Chances are, you are SOL.

Thanks everyone. Hubby will look at back cover from now on. This cd was released in 1997.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
