Computer names should be different so you can tell them apart. Workgroup name needs to be EXACTLY the same.
The common cause for no ability to share files and printers in a Windows Workgroup is firewalls. Tell the firewalls ON BOTH COMPUTERS what IP addresses or what range of IP addresses are to be trusted. I am referring to the local IP addresses for devices on your network, not the static IP address given by your ISP.
Use the latest router firmware. (Which make & model do you have?)
Use the latest network adapter drivers.
I have the following:
1- A wireless router
2- A laptop with WIFI
3- Desktop with LanCard
4- Shared DSL Internet connection (I am member of a workgroup and have an StaticIP address given by the Internet provider)
I have setup the Wireless network and can access to the internet with both Laptop and Desktop simultaneously BUT i am unable to access my desktop system from laptop and vice versa...
Things to keep in mind :
1- Computer Name of both Laptop and Desktop is same but IP addresses are different.
2- WorkGroup of both Laptop and Desktop is same.
3- I dont want to give visibility that i am having two computers
Please help me in this ....i missing the trick please help me out.
