configure computer firewalls
by linkit / December 13, 2006 2:05 AM PST

Computer names should be different so you can tell them apart. Workgroup name needs to be EXACTLY the same.

The common cause for no ability to share files and printers in a Windows Workgroup is firewalls. Tell the firewalls ON BOTH COMPUTERS what IP addresses or what range of IP addresses are to be trusted. I am referring to the local IP addresses for devices on your network, not the static IP address given by your ISP.

Use the latest router firmware. (Which make & model do you have?)
Use the latest network adapter drivers.
