Trouble connecting laptop to tv

I've been trying to connect my laptop to my tv in order to watch movies on my tv but i've been having some difficulties. After setting everything up I can get my computer's display to appear on the tv for a split second but then it disappears and the tv's screen turns blue again. My laptop is a Dell Latitude D830 running 32 bit Vista and my tv isn't exactly the newest tv around. The only inputs on my tv are composite rca inputs. I've been using an s video to rca cable to connect the two but again...nothing works so far. I've been looking online for a while and haven't found anything to help solve my problem so any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks!
