"Search for a Contact
Know the first or last name? Search and hit your target in just a few keypresses.
1. Go to the Today screen (if you're not already there, press Phone/Send ).
2. Start typing either the first or last name of the person.
3. You'll see a list of names appear. With each letter you type, the list narrows. Usually, you'll only need to type about three letters before the list becomes manageable. "
This is in their knowledge base and from memory does work differently from former Palm PDAs.
I have a Treo Smartphone 700P. I used to have a Palm IIIc. I used Chapura Pocket Mirror to put my old Address Book into my Outlook Contacts folder (Outlook XP, Exchange Server 2003) and now synch off of Outlook.
With the Palm IIIc, when I used to look at my Address Book on my Palm, it showed everything last name, first name. Which is what the 700P does now. But if I typed a letter, say "M" while in the address book on the Palm IIIc, it would go straight down to all the "M"s, showing say "Madison" first.
On the 700P, if I type "M", it goes to the first contact (last name order) whose first name begins with "M", Marianne Adams (Adams, Marianne).
Any way to change this? Both Palm tech support and Sprint (our cell carrier) were stumped on this one.
