I was visiting many campuses with our son and Dell's on site support was something consumers would kill for. You should check out your campus laptop policy and ask about the service. Dell and Apple are chasing the students... and giving good service there.

This is a variation on a common theme here -- can I use a PDA for much of my schoolwork and if so, any recommendations?
First a little background: I am going from being a full-time writer (reporter) who is used to travelling with a laptop and my trusty, old Kyocera Smartphone a lot. When I have been without my laptop or in the days before nearly ubiquitous Wi-Fi, I used the Kyocera and a folding keyboard to write stories from lots of places -- airports, taxicabs and restaurants to name a few.
But I am giving up the reporting life for the academic life. In my new gig I will have access to a computer at home and one at school, so I am not looking for something to write 100-page papers on. But universities are all Wi-Fi hotspots now. And since I am used to using a PDA screen, I am thinking of getting something like an Axim (along with a folding keyboard) that I can use for email and working on papers and other documents when I am somewhere other than my office. I simply do not want to lug a laptop around but I will be spending a lot of time moving from class to class, picking up little ones at school, etc. I want to make use of little bits of time. I am a little concerned about Dell's lack of service, but the price on the 30 is so good. Any thoughts on the Axim, another machine, or whether I am crazy thinking I can get this much production out of a PDA? Thanks.
