Transferring Video from Camcorder to Win7 PC

Jun 5, 2010 2:50AM PDT

I am trying to transfer video from my camcorder to Dell Dimension 4200 PC. I have connected the camcorder from the PC using a firewire cable. I have installed DV Studio Version 3.12E-SE, ArcSoft Software, USB Driver, WebCam Driver on my Windows7 Ultimate PC. When I turn on the camcorder in the Video Playback mode, I can see the camcorder as an additional device on the PC. However, when i launch DV Studio - it gives an error - "Unable to communicate with DV Equipment. Please check that cable is connected and DV Equipment is turned on." When I hit ok, DV Studio crashes. PLEASE HELP

"DV Studio crashes"

Looks like you need to talk to DV Studio as its crash is a sign. not a good one.

So there it is. You need software that is for this OS and is not defective.

Camcorder Information

The camcorder model is panasonic PV-GS200

I have called up Panasonic customer service since the software came with the camcorder. They are claiming that the software doesn't work with Windows 7 and no updates are available. I have tried running the software in the compatibility mode but that didnt help. Unfortunately, this is the 1st time i am using the software at all so i don't work if it ever worked even on XP.

Yup.

So... after you de-install it, let's hope that does not make things worse.

Assuming you are using a firewire cable (and not a USB or USB-to-DV cable) to connect the camcorder's DV port to the computer's firewire port and the camcorder is in Play mode, have you tried "Capturing" the video with the bundled MovieMaker?

Yes

I am using the Firewire cable for connection. Unfortunately, movieMaker doesn't run on my computer as it doesn't have a video card with DX9 support. i am looking into upgrading my dell dimension 4500 to a newer video card that supports DX9 as well. Any ideas on what video card might fit this bill?

Try it anyway.

It's sad that you installed a non-compatible app as that could leave you with a machine with issues. It's a shame the software didn't just refuse to install.

Now I have this buddy that won't try a thing. They read things like "requires DX9" and won't try. I can't tell if you tried anyway.
